Emmy Nominations 2025: Snubs, Surprises & Streaming Showdowns

Britt Lower, Zach Cherry and Adam Scott in 'Severance' Season 2 | Apple TV+

The 2025 Emmy nominations are out—and as always, there’s drama outside the drama category. Apple TV+ came in hot, HBO held its ground, Netflix played the long game, and a few long-overdue names finally got their flowers. Let’s break down the chaos, category by category.

The Usual Suspects Dominate (Again)

Apple TV+ pulled off a flex with Severance (27 nods) and The Studio (23 nods), proving once again that well-cast chaos and existential dread sell. These shows bagged actor nominations left and right—between the two, we’re looking at 19 acting nods alone. If your face has ever graced The White Lotus, you’re also apparently Emmy-bound. The supporting categories are basically a Lotus reunion.

Jeff Hiller & Harrison Ford? Now That’s a Plot Twist

Comedy got a surprise dose of emotion this year. HBO’s underdog Somebody Somewhere finally got love in its final year with Jeff Hiller landing a much-deserved nod. Oh, and Harrison Ford? The man just earned his first Emmy nom—for Shrinking. Because why not add “Emmy nominee” to his 50-year film résumé?

Streaming’s Power Shuffle: Apple In, Hulu Out?

Netflix, Hulu, and even Max are still in the ring, but Apple TV+ is clearly punching above its weight. From Slow Horses to the mid-tier Presumed Innocent, the platform’s Emmy thirst is real. Disney+ scored with Andor, and HBO proper still has The White Lotus and The Last of Us, but the split between linear and streaming is getting murkier. TLDR: It’s Apple’s world, we’re just buffering in it.

Snub Season Hits Hard

The internet’s not happy. Diego Luna (Andor), Taylor Dearden (The Pitt), and the entirety of A Man on the Inside got iced out. Meanwhile, The White Lotus continues to collect acting nominations like infinity stones. Justice for the overlooked, but also—who’s surprised at this point?

First-Time Nominees = Fresh Energy

This year’s nominations brought some delightful firsts. Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Tramell Tillman (Severance), Kristen Bell (Nobody Wants This), and the ever-underrated Michael Urie (Shrinking) finally broke through. The Academy might move slow, but hey—better late than never.
